Canberra Raiders Cup Round 10 Wrap

Mikayla Kerin

It is officially the second half of the season in the Canberra Raiders Cup with a stacked line up of matches occurring across the Canberra region on Saturday afternoon.

Blues Victorious in Derby

In Queanbeyan, you're either a Roos or Blues fan and the age-old rivalry played out once again this weekend with the Roos hosting the Blues at Seears Workwear Oval. The Blues took home the inaugural Ian Baker Memorial shield with a strong 48 - 20 win against their Queanbeyan rivals. This is now the Kangaroos' second loss for the season, while the Blues now jump into first position.

Bushrangers Double Win Tally

Over on the Southside, Tuggeranong Bushrangers and Gungahlin Bulls faced off at Greenway. It was a tight game, with the home side taking home the win 36 - 34.

This is only the second win for the Bushies so far this season and goal kicking was the only thing separating the two sides, with Bulls fullback Travis Vawdon converting 5/6 tries while going over for one himself.

Rams Win on the Road

Further north, we had the West Belco Warriors take on the Woden Valley Rams at Raiders Belconnen. However, it was the away side that took home the win 24 - 18. Rams halfback, Josh Fattore proved dominant in the match, scoring two tries himself and converting two out of four tries scored by the winning side.

Yass Triumph in Thriller

And to finish off Saturday’s games, we had an out-of-town clash between Yass Magpies and Goulburn City Bulldogs in Yass. It was a thriller of a clash with only one point separating the two sides as Yass took home the win 27 - 26 with their five-eighth Kaidan Bell, slotting a much needed field goal. This is now Goulburn’s fifth loss for the season, however, they move out of last spot and into seventh heading into Round 11.

Looking Ahead

  • The Bulls host the Warriors in Gungahlin, where both teams will be looking to bounce back from their Round 10 losses

  • We welcome back the Belco Sharks from their Round 10 bye as they look to resurge against the Rams after their Round 9 loss against the Warriors

  • The Kangaroos host again at Seears Oval against the 7th position Bulldogs

  • The Magpies will be looking to climb out of last position with a bottom of the ladder clash against the Bushies

  • The Blues will take their dominant win into a well-earnt bye this week and we look forward to seeing them back in Round 12
