Canberra Raiders Cup Round 11 Wrap

Mikayla Kerin

Welcome to Round 11 of the Canberra Raiders Cup, where we had a mix of results with a couple of close matches, a solid win, and a draw, as well as milestones all happening in the space of a couple hours.

Cross-Town Thriller Ends in Draw

We had a cross-town clash to start off Round 11 with the Rams and Sharks facing off at Phillip Oval. Both sides took home a point each with a twenty points all draw. The Rams were going into the game on a positive note with Michael Geiger celebrating 100 first grade games for the club, and he went over for two tries himself to seal the achievement.

This is now Woden’s third draw for the year which is a concern for the team leading into the back end of the season. However, they are even more concerned with their star fullback, Daine Spencer, who was forced off the field with a concussion in the first half. The team is hoping he is fit and ready for their clash against the Bushies this Saturday.

Back to Back Wins for Bushies

It was a back to back win scenario for the Bushies, defeating the Magpies twenty four points to sixteen in Yass. It was a strong performance all around from the Bushies with both their centres, halfback, right winger and second-rower contributing to their total points.

This sees the Bushies sit in seventh position whilst the Magpies sit in last position once again.

Kangaroos Record Dominant Win at Home

It was back to their winning ways for the Roos, defeating the Bulldogs forty points to sixteen at home.

Their forward pack looked dangerous and proved too strong against the out-of-town side. It was also a milestone weekend for the home side with Roos hooker, Lachlan Ingram celebrating his 100th game and scoring a try himself to make the milestone even sweeter. And to top it all off, this sees the current premiers returning to the top of the First Grade ladder to end the round.

Warriors Win in Gungahlin

The Warriors bounced back from last week’s loss against the Rams to win against the Bulls twenty four points to fourteen in Gungahlin. The Warriors’ first grade rookie five-eighth, Blake Slater, celebrated his first try in the Canberra Raiders Cup competition. For the Bulls, a sixth loss of the season has their top-4 hopes in jeopardy.

Looking into Round 12,  it is an even split of south-side games and out-of-town games

  • We will welcome back the Blues from the Round 10 bye with them hosting the Sharks at Seiffert Oval

  • It will be a south-side clash at Greenway Oval with the Bushies hosting the Rams

  • The Roos will travel out to Yass to face the Magpies to hopefully continue their winning ways at Walker Park

  • The Bulls will look to bounce back on the road against the Bulldogs in Goulburn

  • The Warriors will go into Round 12 with their second and last bye of the season and we look forward to seeing them back against the Blues in Round 13
