Canberra Raiders Cup Round 15 Wrap

Mikayla Kerin

Welcome to the Round 15 Wrap of the Canberra Raiders Cup, where we had some interesting, unexpected, and downright surprising results.

Sharks Back in the Winners' Circle

The Sharks defeated the Bulls sixteen points to six in Gunghalin.

This is the Sharks' first win since Round 4; meanwhile, this loss is concerning for the Bulls, who are now two wins outside of the top four and putting their finals campaign at risk.

The Sharks' win wouldn't have been possible without their consistent star forward, Tommy Watego, who scored a try in the first half.

Bushies Comeback Over Roos

For the match of the Round, we had the Bushies and Roos face off at Seears Oval where the Bushies came out victorious in an upset win

The away side were looking for their seventh straight win, and they did exactly that, pushing their finals campaigns to a new level.

The tight contest was blown wide open with Bushies winger Lachie Davis making a break through the Roos' defence down the right touchline, which led to a play the ball, and was finished off by fellow winger Jayden Pollard.

This win didn’t come without a fight, trailing by six points at the half, to come back to win the match eighteen points to eight.

Warriors Sliding

To continue the theme of upset wins, the Magpies have won against the top-four Warriors side in a tight two-point contest, twenty-two points to twenty in Yass.

The moment of the match was the match-winning penalty goal by Kaiden Bell, who scored the field goal thirty meters out.

The Warriors have now lost their third consecutive match and are at risk of losing a home final and slipping out of the top four.

Blues' Shock Loss

To round off a surprising weekend, the Bulldogs have won against top-of-the-table Queanbeyan Blues, fourteen points to twelve at Goulburn.

This is the Blues' first loss since Round 8; however, they are still sitting at the top of the ladder on 20 competition points.

The win was able to happen thanks to the Bulldogs' halfback, Mitch Cornish, who scored a penalty goal late in the second half.

Ladder Update:

  1. Queanbeyan Blues: 20 points

  2. Queanbeyan Roos: 18 points

  3. West Belco Warriors: 15 points

  4. Tuggeranong Bushies: 14 points

  5. Woden Valley Rams: 11 points

  6. Gunghalin Bulls: 10 points

  7. Goulburn Bulldogs: 9 points

  8. Belco Sharks: 9 points

  9. Yass Magpies: 6 points

Looking into next week:

  • The Sharks will host reigning premiers, the Roos, at NSWRL HQ

  • We welcome back the Rams from their Round 15 bye and host the Bulls at Phillip Oval

  • The Blues are looking to bounce back against a very strong Bushies side at Seffiert Oval

  • The Bulldogs will be looking for three straight wins at home against a hopeful West Belco side at Goulburn

  • The Magpies have the bye, and we look forward to seeing them back in Round 17 against the Sharks
