Round 6 of Super Rugby Pacific saw a couple of dominant statements, a remarkable comeback in Canberra, and continued momentum from some of the competition’s early frontrunners. The Hurricanes and Crusaders both ran riot, while the Brumbies produced one of the comebacks of the season.

Hurricanes 50 – Highlanders 7

The Hurricanes delivered a ruthless performance in Dunedin, overpowering the Highlanders after an early scare.

The home side struck first through fullback Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens, but that was as good as it got. Cam Roigard responded with two tries to spark the Hurricanes into life, before Fehi Fineanganofo added the first of his hat-trick just before halftime.

Leading 19–7 at the break, the Hurricanes accelerated in the second half. Devan Flanders, Bailyn Sullivan and Peter Lakai all crossed, while Fineanganofo completed his hat-trick as the visitors ran away with the contest. The Highlanders’ struggles at the set piece and their heavy defensive workload - making 170 tackles - told the story of a one-sided finish.

Brumbies 33 – Chiefs 24

The Brumbies produced a stunning final-quarter comeback to overturn a significant deficit and defeat the Chiefs in Canberra.

The Chiefs looked in control for much of the contest, building a 24–7 lead with fullback Liam Coombes-Fabling scoring twice. However, the Brumbies stayed in touch and gradually built pressure through their forward pack.

The turnaround came in the final 20 minutes. Ryan Lonergan sparked the revival before Charlie Cale and Declan Meredith both crossed to give the hosts the lead. Then, with the Chiefs pushing desperately, Corey Toole intercepted near his own line and sprinted the length of the field to seal the win and deny the visitors even a bonus point.

Reds 21 – Fijian Drua 6

The Reds extended their strong run of form with a controlled win over the Drua in Lautoka.

The home side were restricted to two first-half penalty goals, unable to convert their chances into tries. In contrast, the Reds were clinical when opportunities came.

Filipo Daugunu sparked the opening try with a long-range movement finished by Kalani Thomas, before Harry McLaughlin-Phillips added another after a clever piece of play around the ruck. Replacement hooker Richie Asiata sealed the result from a lineout maul as the Reds’ accuracy and ability to create line breaks proved decisive.

Crusaders 50 – Moana Pasifika 21

The Crusaders pulled away in the second half to defeat Moana Pasifika in Albany after a competitive opening period.

Early tries to Braydon Ennor and Sevu Reece gave the Crusaders the advantage, but Moana Pasifika responded impressively to briefly take the lead through Tevita Ofa and Joel Lam.

However, the match shifted after halftime. Leicester Fainga’anuku’s powerful solo try opened the floodgates, with George Bell scoring twice soon after. Chay Fihaki added another, and Kurtis Macdonald capped the performance on debut as the Crusaders’ depth and attacking support overwhelmed the hosts late.

Blues 35 – Waratahs 20

The Blues produced a dominant second-half display in Sydney, overturning a halftime deficit to defeat the Waratahs.

The home side controlled much of the first half but failed to fully capitalise, scoring through Jack Debreczeny and Daniel Botha while missing several other chances. The Blues remained within reach despite trailing 17–8 at the break.

After halftime, the visitors took control through their forward power and improved tempo. Codemeru Vai sparked the comeback before AJ Lam crossed twice, and Torian Barnes added a late try to complete a run of 27 unanswered points. Strong carries from the Blues pack and improved discipline proved the difference as they pulled away convincingly.

Six rounds in, the competition is beginning to separate into clear tiers. The Hurricanes look increasingly dangerous, the Blues continue to build momentum, and the Reds’ consistency is turning heads — while sides like the Chiefs are being left to rue missed opportunities in tight contests.
