Caboolture Sports FC’s Queensland Kappa Pro Series journey came to an end on Friday night with a 5-0 defeat at home to Brisbane City, as the NPL side proved far too strong in the final group stage fixture.
Despite the result, the night still offered an exciting glimpse into the Snakes’ future. Six players in the starting eleven were new arrivals from this transfer window, underlining just how much this squad is evolving ahead of the coming FQPL1 season. Against one of the state’s major NPL clubs, it was a valuable test for a side still bedding in significant new pieces.
On the pitch, Brisbane City took control early and never relinquished it. They opened the scoring in the 10th minute, doubled their advantage just eight minutes later, and added a third in the 35th to effectively put the contest beyond reach before halftime.
If Caboolture harboured any hopes of a second-half response, Brisbane wasted no time extinguishing them. City struck again in the 47th minute, immediately after the restart, before adding a fifth in the 66th to complete a commanding performance and seal a comprehensive 5-0 victory.
In the broader context of the group, there was some consolation for Caboolture: even an upset win would not ultimately have been enough. Moreton City defeated Capalaba as expected, though Capalaba did put in an admirable performance in the 2-1 loss. The result confirmed that Caboolture’s path to progression was shut regardless of the outcome of their own match.
The night’s biggest twist, however, came in the group standings. Despite their recent success and status as favourites, Moreton City will fail to advance from the group. Brisbane City’s five-goal haul lifted them to the top of the table on goal difference, meaning it is Brisbane - not Moreton - who progress to the knockout stage.
For Caboolture, the tournament ends without qualification, but not without value. The Snakes have tested themselves against elite opposition, showcased key new signings, and will take important lessons forward as preparations continue for the FQPL1 campaign ahead.
