Caboolture returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Robina City in an important result for the top-four race. The match was anything but comfortable for the Snakes, who had to withstand significant pressure for large stretches of the contest.
On paper, possession appeared evenly split at 50-50, but the overall flow of the game told a different story. Robina were the more aggressive side in attack, finishing with 21 shots compared to Caboolture’s 9, while also dominating corners 9-3.
However, the actual quality of opportunities proved much closer than the volume suggested. Both teams managed five shots on target, highlighting that despite Robina’s pressure, clear-cut chances remained relatively balanced.
The decisive moment arrived almost immediately after halftime. Just two minutes into the second half, Caboolture worked the ball effectively down the flank before Orlando Lopez finished clinically into the bottom corner to give the Snakes a 1-0 lead.
From there, Caboolture were forced to dig in defensively as Robina continued to push forward in search of an equaliser. But despite the mounting pressure, the Snakes held firm to secure all three points and a valuable clean sheet.
The result was particularly important given the context surrounding the playoff race. Entering the round, Caboolture needed a response to maintain their buffer inside the top four, and they achieved exactly that.
Holland Park Hawks also picked up a victory, meaning the gap remains four points, though the Hawks still hold a game in hand. For now, however, the Snakes remain in control of their playoff position.
Elsewhere around the league, Logan Lightning overcame North Star 3-1, while Brisbane Strikers produced the result of the round with an emphatic 8-0 demolition of Capalaba Bulldogs, leaving the Bulldogs inside the relegation zone.
Broadbeach United maintained both first place and their unbeaten record with a 2-0 win over Redlands United, breaking the game open after a tense contest remained scoreless until the 75th minute.
Ipswich FC also continued their impressive campaign, defeating St George Willawong 4-0. Remarkably, three of the goals arrived in the 90th minute or later, heavily inflating the final scoreline as St George remained rooted to the bottom of the table on four points.
