Caboolture suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to North Star on Friday night, missing a valuable opportunity to strengthen their position inside the top four.
Against a side sitting near the bottom of the table, the Snakes entered the match expecting to continue their momentum. Instead, it was North Star who struck first and ultimately held on for a significant upset victory.
The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute with a simple but effective attacking move, breaking through with a well-timed through ball before finishing low past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Caboolture pushed for a response but struggled to find the breakthrough before halftime, with North Star carrying their lead into the break.
The second half brought far more action. The Snakes finally found an equaliser in the 55th minute when a cross into the box was headed home by Kohen Allen to level the contest at 1-1 and seemingly swing momentum back toward the hosts.
But the response from North Star was immediate. Just six minutes later, they regained the lead through a long-range strike that took a lucky deflection, wrong-footing the defence and restoring their advantage at 2-1. The visitors then landed another blow in the 69th minute, scoring again to stretch the lead to 3-1 and place Caboolture under serious pressure.
The Snakes did manage to pull one back in the 83rd minute through Michael Holden, setting up a tense finish, but the comeback never fully materialised. Despite late pressure, North Star held firm to secure all three points.
The result leaves Caboolture still sitting fourth on the table, though their buffer inside the playoff positions has now tightened considerably. For North Star, the win is a major boost, helping them create further separation from the relegation zone while remaining third from bottom.
