It was a weekend of goals, drama and dominance in the NPL Tasmania as Matchday 4 delivered two thumping wins.
South Hobart Reach Double Figures
The round’s headline performance belonged squarely to South Hobart, who dismantled Launceston United 10–0 in an extraordinary attacking display. Nine different players found the back of the net, with Austin Yost the only one to bag a brace in what turned into a procession at Darcy Street. The win keeps South Hobart atop the table as they lay down a clear early-season marker.
Glenorchy Pummel Lions
Not far behind in the drama stakes was Glenorchy Knights’ 8–0 hammering of Kingborough Lions. The scoreline tells part of the story, but the late drama added the rest. Three of Glenorchy’s eight came after the 90th minute, including Riley Dillon’s third to complete a ruthless hat-trick. Jack Glover also chipped in with a double as the Knights rebounded from last week’s loss in emphatic fashion.
Strikers Outlast City
Meanwhile, Devonport Strikers ground out a solid 1–0 win away to Launceston City. It was a professional, disciplined performance from the visitors, who bounced back from a slow start to the season and now find themselves just a point off third. For City, it’s a missed chance to keep pace with the top two.
Olympic Jump United
Riverside Olympic also got their first win of the campaign, seeing off Clarence Zebras 2–0. The Zebras remain rooted to the bottom, still without a point from their first four games. Their afternoon went from bad to worse when Harkirat Singh received his marching orders in the 89th minute, picking up a second yellow long after the damage had already been done.
League Table Snapshot
Still early in the season, although tiers are beginning to emerge. South Hobart seem a cut above, while Clarence look a sorry side at the bottom. The mid-table remains close, with three points bwteen third and seventh.
