Caboolture Sports FC advanced in the Queensland Cup on Tuesday night with a 6-3 victory over Logan Metro FC, in a match that played out much as expected: open, attacking, and ultimately decided by the Snakes’ superior quality.
Despite the difference in divisions, it was Logan who struck first, taking the lead in the ninth minute and briefly putting Caboolture on the back foot. The response, however, was swift. Rigby brought the Snakes level in the 15th minute before Orlando Lopez put them ahead in the 27th, seemingly settling the contest.
But Logan refused to go away. Showing commendable resilience, they equalised in the 36th minute to make it 2-2 and keep the match alive heading into the latter stages of the first half. Caboolture ensured they would take an advantage into the break, though, with Michael Holden finding the net in the 40th minute to restore the lead at 3-2.
As the game wore on, the gulf in quality began to show. Ethan Docherty extended the lead in the 51st minute, finally giving Caboolture breathing room with a two-goal cushion. From there, the Snakes took control. Lopez added his second of the night in the 55th minute, before Nathan Beagley capped off the scoring for Caboolture in the 78th to make it 6-2. Logan did manage a late third goal in the 89th minute, but by that stage the result was long decided.
While the attacking output will please, there is room for reflection. Conceding three goals against opposition from three divisions below is not ideal, even if the final goal came with the game already out of reach. Still, the primary objective - progression - was comfortably achieved.
