Caboolture fell to a 2-0 defeat against Brisbane Strikers on Tuesday night, as the rescheduled fixture ultimately followed a similar script to the original abandoned encounter.
The hosts struck first in the 15th minute with a sharp attacking move. A well-worked passing sequence opened up Caboolture’s defence before a precise chip over the back line found full back Omoro Adoro, who finished calmly into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0. That goal separated the sides heading into halftime, with Caboolture unable to find a response despite periods of possession.
The second half was disrupted early by a concerning moment that echoed the previous meeting between the teams. In the 48th minute, play was halted due to an injury to Strikers midfielder Oliver Duncan, who required a stretcher before the match resumed in the 55th minute.
When play restarted, Brisbane quickly regained control. In the 65th minute, they doubled their advantage with a move strikingly similar to the opener: a swift transition forward, a ball played over the top, and a composed finish from captain and striker Matthew Thurtell.
Caboolture looked to respond immediately, increasing the tempo and creating a series of chances. Several efforts were deflected, while another narrowly cleared the crossbar, but the breakthrough never came.
Brisbane earned a penalty in the 86th minutefollowing a rapid attacking move, and looked to put the result beyond doubt. But Snakes' goalkeeper Bon Scott produced a strong save, diving to his left and getting a hand to the effort to keep the score at 2-0 and preserve hope of a late comeback.
That hope nearly sparked in stoppage time. In the 95th minute, Mitchell Keys unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper but crashed back off the post. It was a moment that summed up Caboolture’s night: close, but not quite enough.
The match ended 2-0, a result that mirrors the scoreline at the time of the original abandonment between the sides. For Caboolture, it is a disappointing outcome in a fixture that represented a valuable opportunity to gain ground on a direct rival.
Attention now turns quickly to Friday night against the Wanderers, as the Snakes look to respond and regain momentum in their push up the table.
