Round 8 of the Isuzu UTE A-League brought a shift at the top of the ladder, with Sydney FC ending the weekend in first place while Auckland FC continued to prove difficult to beat. Elsewhere, Brisbane Roar extended their unbeaten run and Adelaide United’s slump deepened after another narrow defeat.

Sydney Claim Top Spot

Sydney FC moved to the top of the ladder after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Perth Glory. Their sixth victory of the season capped a strong run of form and underlined their credentials as one of the early frontrunners in the competition.

Auckland Edge Mariners in Wet Conditions

Auckland FC secured a 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners in a rain-soaked clash at Industree Group Stadium. Sam Cosgrove scored the decisive goal to seal the result, leaving the Mariners in ninth place after suffering their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Roar Extend Unbeaten Run

Brisbane Roar’s strong form continued with a 0-0 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers at CommBank Stadium. The Wanderers were left frustrated after failing to break the deadlock, while Brisbane’s unbeaten streak stretched to five matches.

Victory Claim Rare Win in Rivalry Clash

Melbourne Victory earned just their second win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United in the Original Rivalry at AAMI Park. For Adelaide, the loss marks a worrying trend, with Airton Andrioli’s side now suffering three consecutive defeats.

Jets Sink Struggling Phoenix

Newcastle Jets boosted their season with a convincing 3-1 win over Wellington Phoenix. The result moves the Jets into eighth place, while the Phoenix drop to second-last and now hold the league’s second-worst defensive record after their fourth loss of the season.
