Caboolture FC emerged 4-2 winners over Redlands United on Saturday night in a match that more than lived up to its billing. It was a chaotic, high-scoring affair packed with momentum swings, red cards, and late drama.
For much of the first half, it was a tense and evenly balanced contest, with neither side able to break through. But everything changed in a frantic final few minutes before the break.
Redlands struck first in the 42nd minute, working the ball wide before a sharp run inside created space for a low long-range finish. Just two minutes later, they doubled their lead after Caboolture were caught in possession in midfield. A quick transition and through ball split the defence, and the finish looped over goalkeeper Bon Scott to make it 2-0.
Just as it looked like the Snakes would head into halftime with a mountain to climb, they pulled one back in the first minute of stoppage time. Michael Holden’s footwork down the wing won a corner, and from the resulting set piece, Ethan Docherty powered home a header to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Caboolture needed just one minute after the restart to draw level. From their first attack, Kohen Allen struck from distance with a low, skidding effort that somehow found its way past the Redlands goalkeeper, making it 2-2.
Moments later, the game swung again. Less than a minute after the equaliser, Redlands were reduced to ten men following a shoving challenge, handing Caboolture a numerical advantage.
The pace settled after that, but the Snakes continued to press, and in the 58th minute, they completed the turnaround. Another corner caused problems, and this time it was Kohen Allen rising to head home and give Caboolture a 3-2 lead.
From there, the game steadied again, though the tension remained. Redlands’ frustrations boiled over in stoppage time when they were shown a second red card, reducing them to nine men.
Caboolture put the result beyond doubt in the 95th minute. Ethan Docherty grabbed his second of the night, firing home to seal a 4-2 victory and cap off a remarkable turnaround.
The win lifts Caboolture to 14 points and into the top four, though the standings remain tight, with Holland Park still able to move ahead if they win their game in hand.
Elsewhere in the league, Brisbane Strikers defeated St George Willawong 2-0 to keep them rooted to the bottom of the table. North Star secured a late 3-2 win over Capalaba to leapfrog them out of the relegation zone, while Ipswich FC and Sunshine Coast Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw, keeping Ipswich in third.
Matches between Logan Lightning and Broadbeach United, as well as Robina City and Holland Park Hawks, were postponed.
